Von Dubinhaus Google ReviewsElsie, training success:We purchased a German Shepherd puppy from a reputable breeder that had no signs of aggressiveness or behavior problems, but we quickly started seeing serious issues with her. Elsie was very frightened of other dogs, people, and even objects around the house. She would fear-bark and lunge at other dogs when she was just 10 weeks old. We took her to puppy training classes where she responded well. She was quick to learn and wanted to please. However, she would not tolerate other dogs around her and occasionally tried to attack the other dogs if they approached too close to her. She was also very frightened of other people and even the trainer could not handle her.
Her behavior with people became more and more dangerous, including growling at children, ignoring commands and chasing dogs or cats, and biting family members when playing. We had to isolate her more and more from these situations, eventually getting to the point where we couldn't walk her outside of own yard and needed to lock her in a room when anyone came over to visit or the kids had friends over. It was a constant worry to us that she would hurt someone or another dog. We reached a point where the liablity over keeping an animal like this became too great. We decided that we would look into Shepherd Rescue options, and if nothing could be done to curb her behavior we would need to have her put-down or adopted.
We contacted Paul and he agreed to evaluate her. Frankly we were surprised anyone would have agreed to work with her, but he said he thought she could be helped and recovered. For several months now we've worked with Paul training Elsie at his location and at our house. She's made huge improvements. Her aggressive behavior with other people is under control and the kids can have friends over without the sense of constant fear. She can go on walks and not engage other dogs or attempt to break from our control. She is slowly being socialized into Paul's Shepherd pack, and is making big steps with her fears of other dogs.
We loved our puppy and it would have been heart-breaking to have to remove her from our family. If you have a dog that is too aggressive and forces you to rearrange your life around keeping other people and animals safe we would strongly recommend contacting Paul.
Kane, training success:Kane is a white German Shepherd and Timber Wolf hybrid. He is almost 5 years old and began having behavior problems last summer. I got him fixed, which I wish I had not done, and he became worse. Kane was in two dog fights, one of which was not his fault. He was destructive and could not be kept in the house nor the garage! He broke the pipe under the sink and ripped the wires out of the garage! He was terrible to walk, always stopping at every bush or poll to mark it. Now he is the perfect dog! I can walk him and push a stroller and text all at the same time. My two year old can walk him!!!! Also my 7 y/o walks and trains with him and he listens very well to her. I could walk him off leash, but that is illegal. Kane has become a really great dog! He can be in the house now and does not try to eat the cat. He still can't be left alone in the house due to separation anxiety, I think. He still has more to work on, but I must say he is a completely different dog. He attempted to engage in a dog-fight and when I called his name he quickly came and sat by my side. Even when he is playing with other dogs if I just call his name he comes. When I am walking him if I stop to talk with a neighbor he will sit patiently by my side. My Kane is the perfect dog thanks to Paul.
Matombo, Von Dubinhaus puppy:I had reservations of getting another dog as I have had two others on the property I live on with somewhat bad luck (really it was bad advice from my vet and the local animal control). But was pushed by my brother to really think about getting a dog as I missed my old friends from the past. I would visit the local animal control shelter from time to time. A Von Dubinhaus Shepherds ad in the paper peeked my interest as puppies were available. I called and went to see the puppies. I was immediately impressed with Paul's control of the dogs as that many in a group can get out of hand. We talked about what type of personality and the use of the dog I wanted. But our main issue was getting me, the owner of the new puppy, on board with training the dog correctly to achieve getting the dog I wanted. My dog is two years old now and is a pleasure to have around and is exactly the dog I needed. Von Dubinhaus Shepherds worked well for me, helps when I need advice or need reassurance to correct some behavior with the proper technique to get results.
